All right, having gone through the entries, I'm gonna cast my lot for 'Nice Running Into You...'; even being unfamiliar with the universe it takes place in, Kes did a darling job of making John and Maren feel very real, and very likable right from the go.  And it doesn't get much more ordinary than lunch!

Wow, thanks, Steff!  :)

I seriously have to sleep on this one ... all of the entries were that good.

Gah! It is hard to decide. I was surprised by Goirijob's entry that I could connect with it so much despite not knowing their universe. That and the reaction of the crew to having a meeting late at night. Very slice of life.
Then there's kes7's John and Maren. Man these guys get to me with their will they won't they. It was terrific seeing them in this new situation years before Tesseract and it made me chuckle and aw at their going ons.
As always, Steff rocks when she writes anything Scotty. The isolated Scotty slowly being able to reach out and seek comfort and friendship. The brotherly connection between him and Cor is so wonderfully conveyed and the tone in which it is delivered as usual consistent and top par.

So I am torn on this but I'll send my vote the way of kes7 simply because I am so caught up in the John and Maren thing at the moment and this entry but made me more so. Sorry to Steff and Gorijob - real slice of life entries and brilliantly told but as I said I'm stuck on this pair and their love story. How sappy is that? But gotta go for them and even hope that it works out for them - bar the complication of Icheb!

Thanks so much, Miranda Fave!  (You shameless shipper, you!   ;D)

(Oh, and on that note, just so you know, I think Icheb might hate you now.  He looks irritated, even for him.  He also mentioned something about resistance being futile, but I'm not sure what he was trying to imply, there.  He's currently being held behind a force field somewhere in the Delta Quadrant, though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.   ;))

You haven't seen McGregor kick Borg ass before have you? Icheb's threats are inefficient and futile in and of themselves. As McGregor would say in response to the Borg call 'Resistance is futile' "I like to play hard to get. Buy me some candy and flowers first, then we'll talk."

And for the record I was never a shipper! Until I started Tesseract. Curse you! *shakes fist*

I think McGregor might break Icheb's brain with his inappropriateness long before it ever became an actual confrontation.  Remember Seven as a drone in "Survival Instinct?"

"Input error."   ;)

(ETA:  You and McGregor certainly know how to push the Borg's buttons though!  Inefficient?  Futile?  Them's fighting words!   :o ;D  Anyway, shipper or not, thanks again for the vote, I'm really glad you liked it.  And I'm seriously considering sending you an I/M scene.  It's only fair that you see both sides.   :)  Now I just have to decide who to vote for ... sigh.)

McGregor says: Come on ye bucket of bolts and screws! Put 'em up.

Me says: Seriously consider that I/M scene - at present way too biased towards the J/M and current story won't exactly have time to brood over I/M stuff.

All right.  I slept on it, and read all of them again, and I had to go with Steff.  She just does slice-of-life so well it's like being there.  In the end, I felt like I spent a weekend at the Corrigans' house.  And who doesn't love a little Radioactive Vulcan Zombies II?

I wanted to vote for MF because I love Noah Cutler, the banter in the den was funny and adult and reminded me of the guys I grew up around thanks to my dad's job -- rough seafaring types, though I guess in this case they'd be spacefaring types.  I also really loved how the Kestrel became another character in that piece.

I wanted to vote for gojirob because I thought he did a terrific job providing a cross-section of ordinary life all over the ship, and Chekov made me giggle out loud with his sniping about the plant, and even though I was lost by the end since I haven't read Ancient Destroyer, I liked all the dialogue very much.

In the end, though, I just had to go for Steff.  Sorry, MF and gojirob!  This was such a tough one I didn't want to vote at all.  Great job, everyone!

Yay! :D

Mind, McGregor's grumbling and saying nasty things but Molly's looking at him with her bumble bee frown.

Now, now Capt. McGregor. I like Mirandas as much as the next guy, but lets not piss off the person with the gigantic starship on her side. By the way, what class would Tesseract be? I propose "Oh My God What the Frak Is That It's Coming Out Way"-class?
