Ad Astra email addresses

To help combat the recent deluge of spam and bot requests, I've decided to open up requests for email addresses.  If you're interested or if this is something you'd like to do, please reply below.  They would follow this example: yourname@trekfics.net.  I will not be providing adastrafanfic.com/net/org addies, because those are for staff/official use only.

I'm still working on the blog site, but I ran into a coding snafu that I haven't been able to overcome.  Plus, with the recent events and our rise of spam accounts both on the forums and on the archives, I've been a bit busy and miserly with my remaining free time.

How would this work, seeing as we are all approved?

Would you be (for example) banning the yahoo domain (which is my email domain) and then I would switch over so as to be protected?

Correct.  This is intended to provide a secure method of delivering mail to those domains we're currently banning.  Trekfics.net addresses will be provided at no-cost to current members.

Okey doke. The userid @ the domain is fine for me. I take it there wouldn't be any mail, just the signup for AA?

You can use it to forward to your yahoo.com addy, if you like.  It's just going to be a mail receiver/sender service.  We'll be locking down our SMTP to only users, to prevent us from being an open-relay spam source.

Is this something we all need to do, or just those domains that are causing the issue?  My email is @msn.com - will that be affected?  Sorry, but I didn't make it over to the chat room - I'm away visiting relatives in the Philly area this weekend - so I hope it's okay to ask this here.

It's not required for anyone to do.  This is purely an option to those who may be affected by the new spam measures.
