OUTAGE (1/12/2010)

The OS is now running ubuntu 9.10 (karmic).

What happened: The OS we were running on was 8.10 (intrepid), and there was a call for an upgrade of an app we run on the server for email/mailing lists.  Unfortunately, in order to upgrade this app, we needed a higher version of one of the core applications (mysql), but that also in turn required us to upgrade the version number of the distribution this server runs on.  So, when all was said and done, we patched our kernel, then upgraded the distribution, then upgraded mysql to 5.1, then we upgraded the apps that needed it.

Duration: 2 hours.  It was late at night and hopefully no one noticed.
