The New Awesome Fan Art Challenge!

Our first challenge on the basisof  the theme .... well appropriately enough 'Ad Astra'

As stated in the announcement thread, submissions are rather open to interpretation but be Trek related in some wee way. The submissions can be anything - drawings,photo-manipulations, photoshop creations, etc; the end result can be apicture, a 'book cover', a 'screencap' from a scene in a story, an iconor avatar, banners, ads, whatever. They can be based on canon Trek or your very own fanfic/art stuff. So long as it is art and of coursemeets with the boards T.o.S. is in good taste and of course everything isentered in the spirit of fun and further fostering the collectivecreative buzz here.

So the theme is Ad Astra. Go play with the idea. Discussion, thoughts, art bunnies, and commentary to be posted here. Post your art or links to it here in this thread and any comments you want to make.

To the stars!     A fitting first theme for the first art challenge on Ad Astra, that's for sure!  Wow, there are so many directions one could take with this ... should be fun.

I think the art challenge is a great idea, given how many fine (or in my case, not-so-fine but learning) artists we have around here!  I'm really looking forward to seeing what people come up with for this!

Any particular deadline for this, or is it just an open ended thing?

Well the deadline, I'm thinking a month to give people time to get something in. So if I look at my calendar and make it to last until April 11th which will be a Sunday night. But we can always be flexible. I want it to be a fun but creative experience for anyone who is so great to take part in the challenge. I know you people are busy. So if the deadline looms and we need to extend we can do so to accommodate [with the caveat that we don't drag it out too much either! Ah, modly powers and whims!]

Hmm... Maybe I'll enter...? I'm not sure. I'm a good drawer, i think, but i dont really have the tools... but ill give it a whirl!

Well seeing as it was my bright idea, I guess I should try and kick it off with an entry of my own.

My original intention was to maybe paint something in water colours and scan it in. But I've wanted to try this out for some time and I took the break today on St. Patrick's Day to try it out. This is my very first creation of a space background using Photoshop. I used the link I think I got from the beginner's thread  about creating a realistic outer space background.

I think it could be vastly improved but in case I don't get the opportunity to fix it up I figured it was best to post it as is. My little trip to the stars ... Ad Astra 1

I now pass the baton on to others to come up with a piece of art themselves. Good luck and have fun. I did.

That's very pretty!  ^^^  I especially like the softly glowing stars in the upper left corner against the dark background, and the "texture," I guess, of the nebula/cloud thing is really cool, too. 

I'm still trying to think of something.  Hmm.

well, i actually drew a picture of a young Spock, and picked out a good background, but have suceeded only in mauling my picture when i try and photoshop it (curse you, Paint!) onto the background...

Well, here's mine. MF inspired me, so I got this free basic graphics editor from my school's website, called Inkscape. It wasn't easy--try making an outer space picture using only circles, lines, and squares! But here it is:

That's awesome KM13! I especially love the comet and colours circles of surrounding it.
